Jars were set out in the gym for students to drop their loose change into to help collect money for the American Heart Association. Each jar had a name of an administrator or coach on it. The administrator or coach that collected the most money in their jar would have to kiss a pig and the second and third place winners would get a pie thrown in their face by a student. The students were able to watch the Kiss the Pig contest winners at an assembly held on Friday, April 27th. Overall, $8,586.30 was collected by CIS students to donate to the American Heart Association. Thank you to all who donated and collected money for this great cause! |
On the 3rd graders walking tour of Caldwell the 3rd graders visited the City Office, the Czech Museum, the Kraitcher House, Citizens State Bank, the Caldwell Civic Center, the new Volunteer Fire Department, and the Burleson County Historical Museum. It was a beautiful day for a field trip!! Thank you to all of the wonderful presenters who taught the third grade so much about Caldwell history! |
Fourth graders participated in the Writing Olympics in which they traveled to different stations reviewing different writing objectives. They received points based on how well they did in each event. Our top teams received medals for their hard work. We would like to thank Mr. Tittle and Mr. Garner for volunteering for this event |
3rd & 4th grade students participated in Jump Rope for Heart. 5th grade students participated in Hoops for Heart. Students collected donations for the American Heart Association. CIS also had a Kiss the Pig Contest and the teacher who collected the most money in their jar had to kiss the pig! |
Caldwell Intermediate School recognized Texas Public School Week by having Muffins for Moms and Doughnuts for Dads breakfasts. After breakfast, parents were invited to visit their child's classroom. |
On Friday, February 24th, all students who met their 4th six weeks AR goal attended Teachers vs. Students basketball game in the CIS gym. Each student who met their goal had their name put in a drawing to be on the 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade student teams to play the teachers. There were 10 girls and 10 boys from each grade level on a team. This event was enjoyed by everyone who attended. |

CIS held an awards assembly on 12/21/2011 to announce the winners of the Fire Prevention Poster Contest. Three posters from each grade were chosen by the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Dept. as the best to describe fire prevention. The winners of the poster contest received a t-shirt and their poster will be displayed in the front windows at the new fire department. |
CIS held an awards assembly to aknowledge all UIL participants and present teams and individuals with their awards and medals won on 12/6/11 at the 2011 UIL competition in Navasota. Some ictures in this albulm are also from the UIL competition. Click here for results |
3rd grade students enjoyed reading The Polar Express and getting to wear their pj's to school |
4th grade played hand bells and sang Christmas songs at their musical on Tuesday, Dec. 13th. The 5th grade choir had a short performance before the musical. |
To help celebrate Dr. Cuff's birthday, students were asked to dress like Dr. Cuff. Prizes were given to students who dressed most like Dr. Cuff. |
Mr. Edwards, a published poet from Somerville, entertained the 3rd grade students with many humorous poems. He talked to them about the joy of rhyme and writing. He stated that many of his poems were like jokes that rhymed. When asked why he writes, he replied, "To make kids happy." He has written 16 books, and does poetry readings at the Bush library twice a year, the next on May 10. The third grade students enjoyed being entertained by Mr. Edwards, a local success. |
CIS students who met their AR goal for the 2nd six weeks attended an autograph party. Students were allowed to bring footballs, volleyballs, shirts and posters for the CHS varsity football and volleyball players to autograph. |
Parents and students of CIS enjoyed a Thanksgiving Dinner in the cafeteria on Thursday, November, 17th. Thank you to all who participated and helped make the dinner such a success. |

In the 4th grade study of sound, the 4th graders learned about pitch, volume and sound waves. They demonstrated their knowledge by having each student create a homemade instrument that could adjust both the pitch and volume. The 4th graders got the chance to participate in a jamboree and play their instruments for their parents, other students, and visitors who came to watch the jamboree. |

CIS hosted a Veteran's Day ceremony on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the CIS flagpole. All veterans, military personnel, and families were invited to attend. The CIS Choir and CHS Band performed for veterans, military personnel, students, staff, and other guests. |
CIS celebrated Freedom Week during the week of November 7-1 1 . During this week students had special lessons, discussions, and activities to remind them of the Constitution and our freedoms. Students were encouraged to wear something different every day to celebrate the week's events. |
3rd grade students chose a nocturnal animal to create a project over. Projects were displayed in the library. |
The 5th grade students displayed their Pumpkin Patch in the library from October 25th- 28th. Students chose a person to write an autobiography about then created a "Pumpkin -ography " or cerealbox of the person they chose to create an autobiography for. |
5th grade GT students studied zoo animals and displayed their zoo projects in the library for everyone to see. |
CIS students were visited by some of the Caldwell Volunteer Firefighters during National Fire Prevention Week. The firefighters gave a presentation over fire safety and prevention. Students were able to take a tour of a fire truck. Thank you to the firefighters who took time to come visit with our students at CIS |
CIS students had their first Hornet Day of the year on Friday, October 14, 2011. Many students had the option to stay home, while several others attended the fun-filled day at school. |
Congratulations to all of the CIS students who participated in the Burleson County Fair during the week of Sept. 19th -23rd. We enjoyed taking a trip to the fair to look at what your hard work had accomplished. We are proud of all of you! |
CIS staff and students participated in the Burleson County Fair Parade on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Thank you to all of the volunteers and students who helped decorate the parade float and walked/rode with us in the Burleson County Fair Parade. Thank you for supporting our great school! |
Students collected water during the week of 9/5/2011-9/9/2011 to donate to the firefighters who were fighting the Bastrop fire. |

5th grade students who participated in the CIS D.A.R.E. program and completed their D.A.R.E. essay graduated from the D.A.R.E. program on Friday, May 20, 2011.

Some of our CIS students enjoyed a field trip to the Brazos Valley African-American Museum, Cici's Pizza, and bowling. |
5th graders participated in "Survivor" Day at the middle school. This was a day that all 5th graders went and visited the middle school and played several games to get familiar with the school and each other. |
CIS hosted a Science Night. Students worked on many different science presentations that were set up for everyone to enjoy. |
In their study of animals, Mrs. Tucker's class examined reptiles and amphibians. By using descriptions of the animals adaptations and body parts, the students discovered the scientific name for each specimen. They then looked at pictures of those animals in resource books.

Mrs. Tucker's classes have spent the last 5-6 weeks studying bees. They took the information they learned and presented in a skit to parents and students of CIS. |
CIS students had the opportunity to visit The Wall That Heals- The Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Museum at Hornet Field on Friday, April 29th, 2011. The CIS Choir performed at the dedication ceremony held at the Memorial at 10am on Friday |
Students enjoyed Everyone Reads Day on Friday, April 29, 2011. This was a day that was set aside for students to read as many books as they could all day. Thank you to all of the guests who came to read. |
Students attended The Ned Show assembly on Thursday, April 14, 2011. The NED Show promotes academic achievement and character development by teaching three critical skills that will benefit kids for a lifetime:

CIS students presented a musical performance at the PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, in the Intermediate School gym. Each grade level gave a short performance to show what they had been learning in music class. |
CIS 3rd graders took a walking tour of Caldwell on Friday, March 25th. This field trip was taken to help tell the story of Burleson County and Caldwell to the 3rd graders. In addition, it helped teach the students to respect their heritage as well as learn a lot about their community and county. Some of the places that were visited were The Czech Museum, The Kraitcher House, The Burleson County Historical Museum, City of Caldwell office, Burleson County Courtroom in the Courthouse, Citizens State Bank, and the New Fire Station. |
Caldwell Intermediate School celebrated Texas Public school week by having Muffins for Moms and Donuts for Dads. This event was held on Friday, March 11th, from 8-10am. Parents were invited to CIS for muffins and donuts before visiting their student's class |

A select number of students had the opportunity to attend Manners of the Heart Session 5 during their lunch periods on the week of December 6-10. Manners of the Heart sessions cover topics such as greetings, social skills, table manners, mouth manners and menaces. |
Students and staff wore a tie to school on December 8th to surprise Dr.Cuff on his birthday, and to wish him a Happy Birthday! |
